Meet the Team Behind FND - What Now?
At the heart of FND – What Now? is a dedicated and multidisciplinary team that brings together lived experience, professional expertise, and a deep commitment to supporting individuals with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) in South Africa (SA).
Our leadership is made up of four core Directors, each overseeing a vital area of the organisation:
-
Founder & Support Group Leader - Audrey Bart
With her scientific background and personal journey with FND, Audrey leads the organisation with empathy, insight, and an unwavering drive to connect and uplift the FND community. -
Director of Programmes - Ms Katharina Gensicke
Focused on developing and implementing inclusive support initiatives, workshops, and advocacy campaigns, this role ensures that our efforts are structured, accessible, and responsive to the evolving needs of those we serve. -
Director of Medical - Dr Justin Govender
With experience in healthcare and a passion for bridging the gap between patients and professionals, this role supports medical education, patient resources, and collaboration with health practitioners to improve understanding of FND. -
Director of Arts & Media - Mr Allistaire Bart
Harnessing creativity to inspire awareness, this role leads our storytelling, media engagement, and artistic initiatives - highlighting the human side of FND and giving voice to those often unheard.

While we come from different backgrounds and bring unique strengths to the table, what unites us is our shared commitment to compassion, learning, and community-building. We’re also big believers in balance - and nothing clears the mind or sparks ideas quite like being out in nature. Whether it’s a quiet walk, a mountain hike, or just soaking up sunshine in the garden, our love for the outdoors helps fuel our creativity, resilience, and sense of purpose.
We’re not just a team - we’re a collective of individuals who care deeply, laugh easily, and believe that healing and hope grow stronger when rooted in connection.
